CONCEPT

Those who want to protect communication and data from unwanted eavesdroppers and cyber criminals are using increasingly sophisticated encryption methods to do so. Yet still, hackers and other criminals are managing to decrypt them. Essentially, cyber war has become a game of chess, with new vulnerabilities constantly open to exploitation. EYL has sought to change the game for good by focusing on one particular component of the encryption system that can cut through this cycle – using utterly random numbers. This ultimate protection against cyber criminals has led to the unbreakable code and creation of the ‘entropy chip’. This is essentially a hardware-based solution to secure computer network systems.

HOW THEY’RE DIRUPTING

Although randomness is often used in encryption services, these are typically generated by software algorithms and are increasingly vulnerable to hacking. EYL’s core technology, entropy chip, harvests ultimate randomness (entropy) from nature by using radioactive isotope decay to generate random numbers. The result is extremely fast and effective random numbers that can be deployed for security systems, computer networks and other purposes. EYL technology is being trialed in the public and private sectors.

DISRUPTION POTENTIAL

The cybersecurity market is expected to be worth $170 billion by 2020.

INVESTMENT AND FUTURE

Last year, EYL received the diamond award of $100,000 from MassChallenge funding.
